Revisiting the Environmental and Socioeconomic Effects of Population Growth: a
Fundamental but Fading Issue in Modern Scientific, Public, and Political Circles
Title of the Article
1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)
i. I found it challenging to understand the human related-stressors and its
affect to our biodiversity
ii. I found it challenging to understand when the article talk about the
economic silver bullet.
iii. I found it challenging to understand the increasing budget deficits of the
government and its effect to the overpopulation plus the corruption that
every country have.
2. Insights (What new insights did you gain from the discussion/ activity?)
i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that
overpopulation is something that a lower class of the society only experience
However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize
that overpopulation is not just restricted in poor or the lower class of our
society but this phenomenon can also happen to the higher class. We just
didn’t think that this is the same situation because of their standing in the
society, One a poor and uneducated people, who didn’t have enough
money to feed their whole family, they are the one who feel this problem
physically. Two, rich and educated people who can feed their family and
can sustain their needs, they didn’t realize that this is actually a problem
because the head of the family can sustain their need. Different situation but
this is the same problem.
ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that this
phenomenon is something that we can’t stop from growing. However,
reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that the
reason why most people ignore this and think this is something we can’t stop
is because overpopulation has been normalized over the past years, this has
been an issue for years and still the government can’t solve this. Maybe
because of a many reasons like, the people that can work on this is limited,
limited support from the government officials. But we should remember that
we may not know feel the consequence of this phenomenon now by the
longer this is going to happen that bigger it will take from us.
iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that the
government is the one who should do something regarding this matter
However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize we
are the answer to stop the over population if we are knowledgeable enough
to understand this phenomenon and the bad things that may happen in the
future, we should be the one who will discipline ourselves and start doing
some family planning. We should be concern to our planet because if not in

end this will going to affect us. There is so much things to consider in making a
law regarding overpopulation like religion, that’s why we should be the one
to educate other people and with the help of government we can solve this
problem slowly.
3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?)
i. What is the psychological reasoning of why people tend to ignore this
topic even though this has been an existing problem in our planet for
years?
ii. What can the government really do in this problem? Should they make a
law? Is making a law is enough to stop this?
iii. Does the people of the society really ignore this topic or the government
don’t want this to be known in public because they don’t know how to
solve this that’s why they restrict the media to report this?
