Importance of Statistical Programming Languages to Scientists
Scientists rely on generating insights that are useful and beneficial to further research
programs. Over time, there has been growth in programming languages that have made this
process efficient. Statistics is all about proving, representing, generating models, manipulation,
and analysis of massive amounts of data. Statistical data usually presents various data with
different characteristics; for instance, if one is dealing with population, then he/she probably has
to deal with height, gender or other factors that describe that population. From that, one can then
generate useful information such as percentages of a particular factor present in that population.
R is an example of influential programming that has been made use by programmers to analyze
and generate useful information (Verzani, 2018). This paper discusses the essence of
programming languages, the benefits, and the limitations of R.
R has various advantages over other statistical programming languages such as Python,
SAS, and SQL. One of the benefits of R is its ecosystem package. It is a vast package that offers
a lot of functionalities that can allow the researcher to develop and customize their tools, which
they can then use to analyze the available data. That is, people from different fields can use the
tool to analyze and generate useful information.
Secondly, R language offers unmatched charting and graphics, for instance, the dplyr and
ggplot2. This feature helps the scientist to generate graphical information quickly. Generally, the
CRAN repository is a powerful feature that allows other researchers from different industries to
make use of the language for analysis (Tippmann, 2014).
