Organization Description
Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health is a north Texas based pediatric home health
agency that works to provide home healthcare, private duty nursing and attendant services, and
physical, occupational, and speech therapy to the pediatric and young adult population. This
organization, along with any organization that is involved within the healthcare industry, must
ensure that the mission and goals of the organization are in support of providing the best care
possible for their patients.
In order for Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health to provide home healthcare services
effectively and successfully while also working to complete the organization’s goals and fulfill
its mission, the implementation of critical success factors could serve as a guideline for those in
leadership positions within the organization when making decisions for the good of the company.
Critical success factors have been defined as “measures of those aspects of the firm’s
performance that are essential to its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success”
(Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2016). Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health can employ both
financial and non-financial critical success factors in order to provide a clear and concise outline
to show exactly what aspects of the organization’s business processes keep it competitive in the
healthcare industry, and improvements that can be made to make the company even more
successful.
Critical Success Factors
According to members of the leadership team at Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health,
the primary goal for every individual working within the organization is to provide children and
young adults in need with high quality home health care in a loving, caring and professional

manner” (personal communication, September 20, 2018). This goal being at the forefront of
every employee’s mind shows the commitment that Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health has to
serving patients and the community. In order to attain this goal while simultaneously being
efficient and competitive in the healthcare industry, Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health must
carefully choose critical success factors to strive toward.
One of the main critical success factors that Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health
strives to excel at are the actual services that the organization provides. The private duty
nursing, attendant services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy that
Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health delivers is the backbone of the entire organization and the
reason that the company exists. Success in the aspect of treating patients is of paramount
importance to the organization, and is able to be measured by using a multitude of factors to
determine that success.
Ensuring every patient that Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health is servicing receives
proper care in the type and amount that is specific to them can be measured by recording visits
and having nurses and therapists complete visit notes for each visit as they are required.
Secondly, measuring success when treating patients could be obtained by documenting the
patient’s progression through his or her specific treatment plan and the resulting outcomes for the
patient. For example, a nursing patient eventually regaining their health to a point where
services are no longer needed or a physical therapy patient completely regaining the range of
motion of a limb after an injury are proof that the services Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health
provides are effectively helping the patients.
Another critical success factor that Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health can utilize
stems from the operations aspect of the business. When the operations of any organization are

running at peak performance, it should allow for more efficiency throughout every business
process and result in a higher success rate for the company. In the case of Angels of Care
Pediatric Home Health, the operations process covers a multitude of integral business processes
that all work cohesively to provide treatment and home health care for their patients. The
organizations utilizes marketing agents to make contact with doctors and facilities to inform
them of the services that Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health provides, employees that
continuously work on taking in referral information and make contact with the patient’s
insurance company to ensure all requirements are met, and the nurses and therapists themselves
to create a unified and organized process to efficiently meet every patient’s needs and ensure
patient and family satisfaction.
Furthermore, the operations process plays an integral role in keeping the organization
financially stable and allows for Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health to remain competitive in
the healthcare industry. When the cohesive operations process for this organization is running
efficiently and avoiding mistakes it enables the company to avoid commons issues such as write
offs, insurance companies refusing to pay for services, and therapists and nurses not getting paid
for services due to insurance issues. The operations process for an organization providing
healthcare services is an integral piece to the overall success of the company. Research
conducted by Osborne, Clark, Blackowiak, Williamson, Werb, and Strong has shown that a
strategically connected operations system can “provide a unified platform for interoperability
that results in significant increased employee efficiency and employee satisfaction, as well as
decrease regulatory and compliance risk” (2017). This research can serve to support future
innovations within the realm of the operations aspect of Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health,

as it may be one of the most important critical success factors the organization can strive to
achieve.
Lastly, the utilization of service oriented architecture within Angels of Care Pediatric
Home Health has been effective at breaking down business processes and streamlining
operations by allowing medical data to be improved and enhancing decision making by
providing relevant information to leaders in the organization. Any organization in the healthcare
industry who places a high importance on having a service oriented organizational structure
should be rewarded with a higher rate of success, as research conducted by Koumaditis,
Themistocleous, and Da Cunha suggests that “there is a need to increase service oriented
architecture adoption success rates as the non‐integrated nature of healthcare systems is
responsible for medical errors that cause the loss of tens of thousands of patients per year
(2013). Along with being able to show the consumer or patient that the organization is focused
solely on how care is provided to them, organizations who choose to implement service oriented
architecture may see reduced costs as well.
Organizational Evaluation
Organizations take a step in the right direction when they begin to implement
critical success factors and being aware of their status, but these organizations must work to
achieve these critical success factors as well. In evaluating Angels of Care Pediatric Home
Health, the organization has shown itself to be a successful competitor within the home
healthcare industry. The organization is achieving the critical success factor of successfully
providing private duty nursing and therapy services to patients by ensuring that each specific
service that is provided is top quality.

While one weakness associated with this critical success factor could be that the services
may not necessarily be proprietary due to other agencies employing nurses and therapists who
have had similar training, Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health is able to succeed in this area
by ensuring that each customer is satisfied with every aspect of their experience. Hiring
employees who are proficient in not only therapy and nursing practices, but internal processes
such as insurance verification, billing, and scheduling as well allows for a more positive and
comprehensive experience for the customer. Secondly, the effectiveness of the organization’s
operations and business processes is of paramount importance when achieving critical success
factors is taken into account. Finding ways to increase the efficiency of operational processes
and ensuring that deadlines are met has enabled Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health to
continuously provide quality care, and continued success and innovation in this area should
result in higher revenue, streamlined operations, and an increased customer base.
In conclusion, Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health has proven itself as being able to
not only effectively meet goals and achieve critical success factors, but in doing so has been able
to expand into different geographic locations with no decrease in the quality of care provided.
Even in a highly competitive industry such as home healthcare services with many competitors
conducting business in the same locations, Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health has established
itself as a leading organization that serves the community and can retain its share of the market
through constant innovation and customer satisfaction. This organization has established critical
success factors that should allow for continued success in both short-term and long-term
situations, and constantly pursuing these critical success factors while innovating with the goal of
improving as a whole will yield continued success for Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health.
