The authors of this article sought to investigate the concept of healthcare quality, stating
that even a perceived low level of healthcare quality among the community the
organization is in can be detrimental to the overall success of the organization. This
study argues that the term healthcare quality can be segmented into attributes to provide a
better understanding of what signifies high levels of healthcare quality. These defining
attributes are effectiveness, safety, obtaining desired outcomes, and maintaining a culture
of excellence, and when organizations are able to attain high levels of success in these
segments should improve the overall quality of care provided.

The authors of this article chose to examine possible issues with the scheduling processes
of healthcare services, placing a specific focus in the home health sector of healthcare.
This research promotes a method that could reduce expenses for the organization while
increasing levels of patient satisfaction, primarily by optimizing scheduling processes for
home health service providers using demand and capability information already known.
These researchers present a model which seeks to reduce total costs, and places a focus
on enhancing the patient experience by ensuring patient priorities are met while keeping
in mind any time constraints or other issues that a patient might have that could possibly
hinder treatment effectiveness and service efficiency.

The authors of this article examine the practice of healthcare providers working with
contract companies or outsourcing services in the primary healthcare sector, specifically
in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Often a practice that is put into action to improve the
area of coverage for treatment, this study seeks to examine exactly how this practice
impacts a multitude of health and healthcare indicators within the region. The research
conducted showed a higher number of healthcare services being provided, which could
support the notion that contracting out healthcare services has resulted in a higher rate of
services being delivered to those who may have not been able to receive them previously.

The authors of this article sought to provide a framework and theory related to service
processes which utilizes factors that shape interactions within healthcare organizations
and throughout the duration of provided healthcare services. The study utilized previous
research conducted in the fields of healthcare services and medical sociology which
provided a solid foundation from which to study the complicated relational processes and
interactions between patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and policy makers.
The authors also state that this proposed theory can be adapted to provide some insight
into the key mechanisms that are involved with patient and caregiver experiences when
faced with long term conditions that may limit quality of life.

The authors of this article sought to study the overall purchasing practices of healthcare
organizations, stating that this aspect is often overlooked in the industry and that
healthcare facilities may not even utilize purchasing practices that regularly result in
higher efficiency and reducing costs. This study shows that analyzing these practices
within the healthcare industry can be difficult, given that many facilities choose to
outsource the purchasing function altogether. The study seeks to provide options for
healthcare organizations to implement strategic purchasing opportunities as opposed to
outsourcing that could result in enhanced processes and sustainability for the organization
as a whole.

The authors of this article sought to examine how strategy can effectively be deployed
within a healthcare organization to achieve the organization’s strategic goals and generate
profitable outcomes for the healthcare institution. The study argues that while knowledge
of best practices is fairly widespread throughout the industry, a multitude of
organizations are unable to employ these practices to optimize performance. The study
also states that the quality of care can be hindered when healthcare professionals are
forced to spend excess time on strategic and logistical activities, when a successful and
efficient strategy could be implemented and deployed that also requires less constant
attention.

flexible job shop scheduling problem in the sense of a modern manufacturing system.
This study sought to promote the use of an effective hybrid algorithm solve this flexible
job shop scheduling problem, which resulted in a demonstrated significant improvement
in solving job shop scheduling issues. The study states that if these methods can lead to
optimizing the production scheduling process for an organization, it can lead to a
significant improvement in the levels of efficiency for manufacturing facilities.
Furthermore, it will reduce scheduling conflicts and streamline production for a more
efficient organization.

The authors of this article were seeking to provide some insight into the operations
management process within a healthcare facility by establishing a workflow model which
integrated specific location systems to improve and facilitate the overall operations
process. The use of real time location systems were studied, which are meant to
constantly track the movement and interaction of integral pieces of the operations process
such as physicians, patients, or medical devices and equipment. This study sought to
optimize the operations management process for a healthcare facility by integrating these
location tracing systems into management information systems in order to cohesively
apply the information obtained to improve operations throughout the facility.

The authors of this article sought to conduct an examination of the job shop scheduling
problem by taking a statistical analysis to optimize an organization’s business processes.
The study highlights a variety of different methods that could be used when
implementing new systems into the scheduling process, placing a focus on artificial
intelligence and machine learning methods such as expert systems. Furthermore, the
authors show a connection between previous research conducted in regard to improving
scheduling processes and an organization’s attempts to design and improve techniques
for optimizing solutions for specific problems. Though the artificial intelligence in these
scheduling algorithms play a vital role in improving scheduling, the study shows that
many practitioners still rely on their own experience when finalizing decisions.

This study examines specifically how information technology can aid in achieving
strategic goals for healthcare organizations. The authors of this article sought to
investigate how changes in regulations have impacted how information technology is
utilized within the healthcare industry. This study takes into consideration a recent
regulatory change which offered financial incentives if healthcare organizations met set
standards when using certain information technology programs, and would eventually
enact penalties and payment reductions for organizations which did not meet these same
standards. The article also states that a hybrid information technology system may be
best adapted to the needs of healthcare organizations, and could be most beneficial when
adopting a new program.
