THERAPY FOR A GROUP OF ADOLESCENTS 2
Therapy for a Group of Adolescent Girls
Two Opening Exercises That You Might Recommend For a Group of Adolescent Girls
Who Were Victims of Human Trafficking
Teenage girls that were victims of human trafficking are usually disengaged from the
reality and dynamics of life in general. Thus, the counselor has to explore approaches that are
tailored to enable teenagers to establish a therapeutic relationship. According to Nordh et al.
(2017), adolescents need three elements to participate and embrace alliances fully; they include
the following; first, it is sense of power. It is vital in helping teenagers believe that they are
making considerable contributions to the newly found relationship. Second, it is competence,
which creates an innate awareness that the adolescent has the required talents and skills to
produce desirable achievement. Third, it is the element of significance, which makes the teenager
have a sense of belonging. Hence, the therapist should recommend opening exercises that can
accomplish the aforementioned ingredients. In this case, I will recommend the use of paper bag
story and social media profile.
Description of the Exercises
First, the paper bag story is an interactive exercise that can be used by a counselor in
adolescent groups. Storytelling has the power of encouraging and empowering an individual to
be flexible and experience cognitive organization. The approach is vital in fulfilling the needs of
the client and acts as a route through which teenagers give their views. The following materials
are required during paper bag story exercise; lunch sacks, markers of different sizes and colors,
paper, scissors, ribbons, and glue sticks. It is conducted using the following steps; step one, the
counselor can make a bag and encourage each participant to build theirs (Bennett et al., 2017).
