Case Study on Social Worker Intervention Treatment
The Bargas family is facing problems that are primarily due to the illness of the father. It
is from his condition that the mother and daughter find their relationship being strained. The
social worker finds herself in a situation whereby she needs to address the apparent fallout
between the mother and daughter, Amy. From her consultations with Amy, the social worker
realizes that the issues she faces are due to a myriad of causes. Other than being at loggerheads
with her mother, she is also undergoing numerous challenges in school that are subjecting her to
loss of self-esteem. This, in turn, worsens the situation at home. By devising a treatment plan for
Amy, it would be possible also to handle the issues that are existent at home.
In addressing the issues that Amy is facing, there’s a myriad of areas that need to be
checked. Primarily, there is the subject of low self-worth that arises from the mocking and
bantering that she is exposed to at school. The loss of self-esteem leads to withdrawal from
normality and renders her unapproachable even to her mother, who ought to be the closest friend.
Additionally, there is the issue of her father’s ailment. Although this has not been exposed open
from the interactions with the social worker, Amy is, without a doubt, suffering from worrying
about his situation. Also, there’s the issue of her mother being overwhelmed with taking care of
her father. This pushes Mrs. Bargas to overload Amy with tasks that she is not used to, and this
plays a cardinal role in causing her apparent change in behavior.
Engaging closely with Amy is imperative in aiding her recovery and ultimate return to
normalcy. This is because the client is the primary source of information regarding her problems
and the various corrective measures that can be undertaken. As a social worker, I would question
Amy closely with lead up questions that would aid in unearthing the multiple problems that she’s
undergoing. This would be more successful when I win her confidence and indicate that I have
