INTEGRITY IN PRACTICE 2
In summary, the case study is about a young boy by the name Dennis who was
brought up in two different environments. In this case, he was born in a filthy environment to
drug-addicted parents. During this time he rarely attended school till the time when one of his
parents was jailed for possession of drugs. It is during this time that he was granted the
opportunity to live with his aunt in a different environment, where he began attending school
regularly and also became a staunch Christian by faith. However, he was later on at the age of
14 years diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukaemia. Notably, the treatment to his disease
became an issue because part of the treatment conflicted with his religious faith.
From the case study, the following ethical and legal aspects could be depicted. The
ethical aspect is that, despite of Dennis being born to drug-addicted parents, he never became
a drug addict because he had different principals of right and wrong. In this regard, Dennis
used his personal principles and religious teachings to condemn drug abuse. In this case,
when he went to live with his aunt he spent much of the Saturdays preaching the evils of drug
abuse. The legal aspect here is that, the government intervened Dennis life by jailing his
father for possession of drugs. Notably, it is the legal duty for the government to ensure that
people who are breaching the law are jailed are rehabilitated. It is against the law to be in
possession of drugs, and that’s why Dennis father was jailed. Notably, they later or on
became sober because of the legal duty taken by the government, and they actually became so
much concerned about their son’s life.
According to Partlett (2019), it is a crime to willing fully possess illegal controlled
substances such as club drugs. This is according to Federal and state drug possession laws. In
reference to the laws, a drug offender must be sentenced to a period of rehabilitation inform
of a jail. From the case study, upon Dennis parents being caught for possession of drugs, they
were jailed to a period of both drug treatment program and rehabilitation. In this case, at the
end of the case study they are depicted as sober people who have a parental care on their son.
