The rationale for seeking specialization in clinical mental health

I want to enroll in a Master’s degree in Clinical mental health counseling at your

institution. This field has been widely underrated, yet mental health remains the backbone of

health influences. I intend to pursue my education to enable me to gain the knowledge that

defines a professional mental health counselor. I am motivated to pursue this program because

since I joined high school, I have been passionate about understanding the mental functioning of

people, per routine behaviors. My curiosity has influenced my interaction with people, which has

made me realize that most societal problems can be addressed if we create the conditions for

inter-personal dialogue. Mental health will equip me with the skills to help patients during their

recovery periods, and inspire a sense of control over their health. I have always aspired to be a

professional counselor. Taking this course will help me nurture my skills and make me a

certified counselor in my society. I want to make a change in society, especially within groups

that have hardly been attended. For example, the number of drug addicts is increasing with time,

and so should the mental health clinicians.

Impact of previous employment

I am currently working at an institution with special needs children. My experience with

these children has equipped me with more professional skills. For instance, I have improved my

record-keeping skills since I have to update every child’s data appropriately and as accurate as

possible. I have also undergone on-the-ground training on how to perform first aid to children

who may experience health problems such as common accidents, convulsions, etc. My case

management skills have been impacted the most. Special needs children are subject to human

rights, and most people in public ignore them. They have been neglected in many societies
