Organizational culture and leadership play a significant role in the achievement of the
short and long-term goals and objectives. Different leaders execute organizational leadership
using diverse approaches depending on the prevailing challenges, strengths, opportunities, and
threats. Servant leadership is among the most effective strategies that leaders use to initialize and
establish organizations with strong cultural orientations and focus on their vision and purpose
(Robertson, 2017). The paper entails a comprehensive case analysis of case 8.2 that focuses on
the operational and leadership characteristics of St. John, the Compassionate Mission. The
analysis dissects key leadership processes and attributes in the Mission from a Christian
worldview in exploring the role of servant leadership in organizational success (Aydın, 2018).
Servant leadership is a highly effective organizational strategy that is relevant to the Christian
approach on work as a service, dignity of work, the integration of work and faith, as well as
God’s purpose for work among human beings.
Overview of the St. John the Compassionate Mission Case
Roberto Ubertino founded the St. John, the Compassionate Mission (SJCM), in the
Canadian city of Toronto in 1985. Roberto worked as a public health nurse in the poor
neighborhood knows as the Pocket, which motivated him to gather volunteers and friends to start
the mission. The main aim of founding the St. John the Compassionate was to enable members
of the poverty-stricken neighborhood to get empowered through appropriate utilization of their
talents (Rowe & Guerrero, 2012). The established also served as a social environment where
members of the community could obtain a sense of belonging and connection to society.
The SJCM initiative began as a step of Christian faith by Roberto, who could only afford
to pay rent for the first month. The humble beginnings of the Mission featured a simple
