Building Rapport with Society
Building rapport deals with establishing bonds and connections with the community. One
of building rapport is through communication. This entails telling people about themselves and
also the organization they represent. It, in turn, becomes a session where even the audience can
talk about themselves. Communication also ensures the passing on of information about each
party’s activities and challenges (Community Tool Box, n.d.). At the end of it, there is some
level of understanding that is created, and the people can start to trust each other. Another way to
establish rapport is to ensure one appreciates cultural diversity. Most of the time, society has
people from diverse backgrounds and even beliefs. Therefore it is necessary to understand people
from different cultures and show interest in learning the same. It portrays a sense of
responsibility and willingness to lay aside differences to ensure the achievement of long term
objectives.
The other method could be through practicing persistence. This means that the person
trying to establish rapport does not give up. What happens in most cases is that people will be
hostile to those trying to develop rapport who at that time are strangers. Giving up at this point
will be the beginning of the end for the establishment of rapport. However, if the person is
persistent and consistent, the people will eventually warm up to them, consequently establishing
the rapport. From a personal perspective, communication is an essential way of building rapport.
It is through this that both parties get to understand each other and begin to develop a sense of
trust.
Establishing rapport helps in building trust within a community. Building trust ensures
that the rapport established does not fade away. There are two ways of building trust in
community-active and passive methods. The active approach is where the parties exercise faith
