WALMART SECURITY SYSTEM 2
Walmart is a multinational company found in the US that deals in Retail Corporations
such as groceries, hypermarkets, and departmental stores of discounts. Sam Walton was the
founder of the Walmart Company in 1962 and incorporated in 1969. The company operates
under different names in other countries except for the US and Canada, where it operates as
Walmart (Walton, 2020). The company operates Sam's club in retail warehouses, and beginning
this year; it had reached 11503 clubs and stores in over 27 nations with different names. Fortune
Global 500 produced a list in 2019, and it showed that by revenue, Walmart was the largest as
well as the largest global private employer with about 2.2 million employees.
Generally, depending on the type of access control at hand, the company has a set of
well-defined policies and procedures to ensure that every action taken in the company is
accountable and justifiable. For example, the company has a well-documented policy to help in
hiring new employees, documenting the employees, screening of the employees, and even the
application for employment (Santos, 2019). The company also has a clear policy that stipulates
that the security policy of the employees should undergo review at least twice a year. Walmart
also applies a written threat awareness program to train its employees about the threats in every
segment of the company, and this makes the employees vigilant and careful.
The Walmart Company attempts to control eight different security controls types. Firstly,
it handles personnel security, where the recruitment of new employees is structured and carefully
verified. The second type of control is the threat awareness program through which employees
receive training on the security alerts in every department. Thirdly, the company controls
physical access control in which the restricted areas and sensitive areas are only of access to
authorized persons. Fourthly, it controls the physical security through which an official formally
appointed heads the transportation, employee, and facility security. The fifth area of access
control is the container and trailer security, where the guards should carry out inspection. The
sixth type is procedural security, through which the company ensures that well-documented
procedures are available to prevent compromise of the control system (Santo, 2019). The seventh
is information security, which is, of course, a very integral part of the company because it
controls the servers of the company, and all useful information is available here. Finally, it
protects the contractor security where those service contractors who may need to access the
facility on a routine basis undergo proper vetting.
The company benefits in many ways; for example, it ensures that the files get delivered
on an end-end encryption basis. Therefore, in summary, it gives strong encryption, keeps
sensitive data in transit, heterogeneous support for computing platforms. More importantly, it is
the ability to account for every source of any error in case of anything. Therefore, it ensures the
cautiousness of the employees. The company aims at protecting both its sensitive information
and that of its customers from licking to the public. By protecting their sensitive data, they
protect their reputation, and by protecting their customers, they protect their brand (Savvas,
2020). They protect their logins from getting into the hands of hackers who can use it for
malicious means. The codes are secrets known to a few people, especially the IT manager, and
that office is exclusively a restricted area. The critical information which forms the core of the
operation of the company should not fall into the hands of the adversaries because they may use
them for their gain and to the detriment of the Walmart Company. Confidential information of
the customers also needs to be safe, and that forms part of the data protected.
