Executive Summary
The case study at hand involves Lululemon, which is a Canadian company that designs,
manufactures and sells sports apparel. Having been founded in 1988 by chip Wilson who has
previously run a skate, surf and snowboard apparel company (Exhibit 1). Initially, Lululemon
started as a privately owned company that manufactured yoga apparel, but later, the company
became a publicly-traded company with close to around 100 stores. However, as its new CEO,
Christine Day, took over in 2008, the company was facing various challenges including
underperforming stores, mismanagement of its real estate strategy, poorly supervised
construction, poor implementation of new inventory systems as well as cross-functional barriers.
The company's value proposition was its view on customers where it stressed producing fit,
functioning and fashionable sports apparel. The following paper is, however, going to analyze
various details of Lululemon in detail, including its internal and external environments through a
swot analysis. Further, the fit between choices of the firm and the internal and external
environment characteristics and various concepts related to the organizational design will also be
addressed. In conclusion, an analysis of the firm using the Star model and vital components of
strategic leadership such as leading change and development of leadership within the firm will
also be addressed
External Analysis
Looking at the external environment of Lululemon, the company exists in a highly
competitive sportswear industry with major competitors, including Nike and also Armor. The
company makes its sales mostly in the U.S and also Canada, where it has stores. However, the
