Find Your Own Identity and Pursue It (Based On Follow Your Arrow by Kacey
Musgraves)
If God wanted us all to be similar, He would have created only one person and would
have been content with His creation. The person would not have to struggle in life, trying to fit
into the rhythms created in society because there would be no society. There would be no races,
no prejudices, no political opinions, and no societal structures. The created person would be left
to enjoy his space, with no competition or no compelling need to be like so and so or to behave
in one way or the other. However, that is not how life is designed. The world is populated by all
sorts of people, with different beliefs and ideologies that sometimes become the sources of
conflict in the lives of human beings. Sometimes, trying to fit in can be so overwhelming that
some people have lost their mental wellness or even their lives because they are unable to fit in
and please the world. If it were possible, each person should be advised to stick to life as they
perceive it, not living to meet the expectations of other people.
Very few human beings can boast of having found their identities, especially when young
such that they live their lives on their terms. Instead, most people struggle to find their identities,
and when they finally do, it usually late in life, and they have few years remaining to live their
lives as they would like to, without being limited by anything. It is hard to strike a balance
between living life on individual terms and living life without infringing on the rights and

freedoms of other people. Until a person can strike that balance in life, he or she cannot brag
about living a fulfilling life.
If a person observes sexual purity, whether primary or secondary, they will be bashed for
pretending to be holier than though. If a woman or a man engages in sexual experiences with
every person they are in a relationship; society will easily label that person to be of loose morals.
In reality, the number or type of sexual partners that a person has is a personal business and
should never be a base to judge a person. After all, it is not possible to measure a person’s
sexuality based on the number of persons they have sexual intimacy with. If people learned to
live their lives and let others enjoy their versions of life comfortably, the world would probably
be a better place to be in.
Human beings tend to judge each other, whether they are doing well or bad. A person
will be judged for wearing a short dress and will be trolled for wearing a long dress. If the same
lady decides to wear a dress that is not too long or too short, she will still be accused of being
less fashionable. This lady in question is left feeling miserable and misunderstood, and these
perceptions can hurt her mental health and self-esteem. Yet, if she decides to fight back and live
life as he pleases, it is very likely that she could be labeled arrogant and inconsiderate of other
people’s opinions. In some societies, a person who chooses to follow their unique path is accused
of being deviant, and in some cultures, the person could be disowned by fellow community
members.
The first step for a person to form identity is to know what they like and also to realize
the areas and situations they feel most confident in. It is also essential for people to embrace their
uniqueness and to understand that being different from the rest does not imply that a person is
not average. The person is different, but the difference he or she has from the rest of the world is
