DATA MANEGEMENT 2
Data Management
It is important to note that organizations all over the world depend on large amounts of
data. This data must be available for use and easily accessible. This data is used to improve their
efficiency and increase their earning. It is important to note that as the business grows, so does
the data footprint grow. This growth is due to the massive amounts of data generated. This data
is then copied and stored to be used when needed. The information and technology department
has to manage this data at all times, including their servers and networks. They are tasked with
ensuring that their data is protected and available for the organization when needed. Data
footprint is essential in providing that the organization is well-managed (Huberman , et al. 1994).
Organizations are struggling to reduce and right-size their information footprint. This is
all aimed at improving the efficiency of the organization. Most organizations do this by using
two popular methods. This is de-duplication and data cleansing. De-duplication is when the files
are set to duplicate and get repeatedly backed up. Instead of storing all the files that contain data,
a copy of one record is kept, which represents the various data. This file contains pointers to the
other data. In essence, the organization is utilizing space and still maintaining its efficiency.
Furthermore, this enables them to manage their resources and influence their performance
effectively. Most organizations achieve success through the efficient managing of their data. This
impacts them on so many levels, including resource management.
Organizations are struggling to reduce and right-size their data as a form of security. It is
important to note that with the advancements in technology, the security risks of the IT
department have significantly increased. The information technology department faces issues
such as stolen identity and malware. Most organizations use the internet today to regulate and
