Description
Explain in detail why we don’t see any trenches on the
Atlantic coast of the US. Elaborate as to what differences must be in place if
we were to find a trench.
Examine Figure 9.4 in your textbook. What do you think is
the cause of the “dip” (i.e., decrease) in salinity around the equator? Could
it not be argued that higher temperature causes more evaporation from the ocean
surface, which, in turn, results in higher salinity content?
By definition, waves are energy that travel through the
medium but do not move the medium. In other words, in ocean water, waves carry
energy that travels through the water, but does not move the water. This would
seem to be a bit of a conundrum considering waves move up and down on the beach
(people surf on them and they are moving). Explain why this scenario is a
unique case but does not change the definition of waves.
