The case report will allow you to describe in detail a particular disorder, based on the presentation of an actual client. Please write in complete sentences. All information required to write the case report is available on the Faces Interactive website or in your textbook.

To get to Faces Interactive, follow these directions:

Go to  HYPERLINK "http://www.mhhe.com/faces" \t "_new" http://www.mhhe.com/faces.

Choose the right speed and resolution for your internet connection.

A new window will open – this is Faces Interactive.

Click the disorder that you will write the case report about (see below for which disorders to choose from).

Click “View Disorder”.

Explore all aspects of the disorder by clicking the different tabs on the website. Note that there are tabs at the top of the page (Diagnosis, Case History, Interview, Treatment, Assessment) as well as links at the side of the page (options differ depending on which tab you have selected).

You must choose from one of the following disorders:

Bipolar Disorder

Paranoid Schizophrenia

Sample Paper: There is a sample Case Report online under Content/Case Reports. Please read this for an idea of what I would like you to write, and the desired writing style. Note that the sample paper is about a different disorder than you will write about. This paper would receive an A.

Specific Sections and grading rubric:

Overall Writing Style (5 points): Please use correct spelling and avoid slang words. Please write in complete sentences. Write in an organized and coherent manner. Use direct quotes frequently to explain the client’s different behaviors. See the sample paper for more ideas about what writing style to use.

Your Name, Client Name, Diagnosis (1 point): See sample paper – please include this information.

Observations (250-350 words, 10 points):

Using direct quotes and descriptions of the client’s behavior, explain how the client meets DSM-IV criteria for the disorder you have diagnosed. Explain clearly how he or she meets each criterion. Briefly explain if the client does not meet some of the diagnostic criteria. The description of symptoms should be the “meat” of your paper – based on this description, it should be clear that this is the best diagnosis for the client.

Differential Diagnosis (125-200 words, 8 points):

Differential diagnosis is the process of differentiating two disorders with similar symptoms. This is an essential part of every diagnosis, since clients often present with complex symptoms and it can be very difficult to tell which is the “right” diagnosis. This section should discuss why the diagnosis given to this client is the best possible diagnosis, rather than other, similar diagnoses. You should discuss at least one other disorder. Explain how someone might initially think that the client meets some of the criteria for this other disorder, but then explain why that is not right, and the client actually better meets criteria for the disorder you have chosen.

Suggested disorders to consider in your differential diagnosis section:

If your case report is about:
