Explanation & Answer
The U.S. is facing a serious shortage of nurses that is predicted to worsen if something is not done about the situation. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), projects that the country's nursing shortage will increase until the year 2020. Their findings show that there will be a nursing shortage in all 50 states by the year 2015.
Nurses perform very vital role in the nation’s healthcare industry. Often they are the first and main point of contact for patients. Increasingly, nurses are being asked to take on more composite job functions. Additionally to providing patient care, almost all nurses are currently varnished in administrative and managerial functions at hospitals and healthcare facilities around the nation. The nursing shortage has resulted in a decrease of available nurses at hospitals where the specialized critical care is provided. This puts a strain on many registered nurses already in the workforce.
