Design for the City of Kelsey, Part 2

For this assignment, you must continue working on the track you selected in Week Two.

Option 1: Web-Based Track

You have just received an e-mail from the City of Kelsey. The city would like you to update the existing banner and to create a new banner for mobile devices.
There are two parts to this assignment.

Part 1: Updated Banner

Update the existing banner by incorporating the following design elements:

  • Kelsey City logo (logo is located on the Kelsey City website off the Virtual Organizations page)
  • An additional image
  • Other design elements and color schemes

Save an unflattened .PSD file smaller than 10 MB for submission.

Save a .JPEG version for submission.

Part 2: New Mobile Banner

Create a new banner for mobile devices that is 300 pixels wide, 75 pixels tall, and less than 100 KB. This new mobile banner should be consistent with the style of the updated banner and continue to demonstrate effective visual design, however it should NOT be a resized copy of the larger banner. To create the new mobile banner, complete the following:

  • Create a new canvas for the mobile banner that is 300 x 75 pixels
    • Note that simply reducing the size of the new banner may not be visually effective. For example, the banner may become too busy or items may not be clearly visible. You may make modifications to compensate for the reduced size as long as the new banner remains consistent with the intended message and style.
    • Remember to view your new banner at a 100% aspect ratio because anything larger may be deceptive and lead to poor design decisions.
  • Incorporate the images, backgrounds, and overall theme used on the larger banner into the mobile banner.
  • Make sure to add the city logo, extra image, and other design elements as you did in part 1.

Save an unflattened .PSD file smaller than 10 MB for submission. Use the word mobile in the file name.

Save a .JPEG version for submission. Use the word mobile in the file name.

Submit the unflattened .PSD and the .JPEG files for both the updated banner and the new mobile banner to your instructor.
Submit a MS Word document with a 1-2 paragraph summary of your editing plan and steps. You can also share any challenges and successes you experienced along the way. Include citations for the images that you used.

Option 2: Print-Based Track

You have just received an e-mail from the City of Kelsey. The city would like you to update the existing poster and to create a flyer to hand out to citizens.

Part 1: Updated Poster

Update the existing poster by incorporating the following design elements:

  • Kelsey City logo (logo is located on the Kelsey City website off the Virtual Organizations page)
  • An additional image
  • Other design elements and color schemes

Save an unflattened .PSD file smaller than 10 MB for submission.

Save a .JPEG version for submission.

Part 2: New Flyer

Create a new flyer that is 8 inches wide and 5 inches tall. This new flyer should be consistent with the style of the updated poster and continue to demonstrate effective visual design, however it should NOT be a resized copy of the poster.

To create the new flyer, complete the following:

  • Create a new canvas for the new flyer that is 8 x 5 inches.
    • Note that simply reducing the size of the image may not be visually effective. For example, the flyer may become too busy or items may not be clearly visible. You may make modifications to compensate for the reduced size as long as the flyer remains consistent with the intended message and style.
    • Remember to view your flyer at a 100% aspect ratio because anything larger may be deceptive and lead to poor design decisions.
  • Incorporate the images, backgrounds, and overall theme used on the poster into the flyer.
  • Make sure to add the city logo, extra image, and other design elements as you did in part 1.

Save an unflattened .PSD file smaller than 10 MB for submission. Use the word flyer in the file name.

Save a .JPEG version for submission. Use the word flyer in the file name.

Submit the unflattened .PSD and the .JPEG files for both the updated poster and the flyer to your instructor.
Submit a MS Word document with a 1-2 paragraph summary of your editing plan and steps. You can also share any challenges and successes you experienced along the way. Include citations for the images that you used.
