Introduction
The purposes of each case study assignment include the following:
To hone your abilities to research using scholarly sources
To advance critical thinking and writing skills
To compile a response to the prompts provided
To explore a historical topic and make connections to change over time
Instructions
Pick one (1) of the following topics. Then, address the corresponding questions/prompts for your selected topic. Use at least one (1) documented example of the corresponding primary source in your writing.
Option 1: McCarthyism and Anti-Communist Campaigns
The Cold War brought about an irrational fear of communism and communist activities in the United States. As we are learning this week, one of the most vocal instigators of this paranoia was Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy delivered a speech about the imminent threat of communism on February 9, 1950. Perform a search on the internet and locate and read Joseph McCarthy's speech given in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 9, 1950. Copy and paste the following keywords into your Google search bar: "Joseph McCarthy, Wheeling, West Virginia." The speech is also referred to as "Enemies from Within."
Construct the case study by responding to the following prompts:
Explain how Senator Joseph McCarthy defined communist nations within the speech. What specific threats did these nations pose?
Assess if Senator Joseph McCarthy charges were accurate.
Analyze anti-communist sentiments during the Cold War era, were these sentiments valid. If so, how? If not, why not?
Explain if there are other examples of events similar to the Red Scare that have occurred throughout history and modern day.
Examine what happened to people who invoked the Fifth Amendment, refused to appear or were found in violation of the law as defined by the Congressional Committee.
Option 2: The Civil Rights Movement
Using the Internet, locate and read Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech given in Washington D.C., August 1963. Copy and paste the following keywords into your Google search bar: "I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King, Jr." Feel free also to locate and incorporate additional scholarly sources to respond to this case study, including information on the Civil Rights Movement.
Construct the case study by responding to the following prompts:
Explain if the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s effectively changed the nation.
What effect would the Civil Rights Acts have across the continent on minority groups?
Do you think that the tactics and strategies that civil rights activists used in the 1960s would apply to today's racial and ethnic conflicts? Why or why not?
Do the ideas of the 1960s still have relevance today? If so how? If not, why not?
Analyze how the Civil Rights Movement would impact diversity in America today.
Option 3: American Domestic and Foreign Policies (1953-1991)
Complete a search either in the Chamberlain Library or internet for domestic and foreign polices of four (4) of the following Presidents. Please incorporate at least one primary source of either a policy or act that you have chosen to write about.
Eisenhower
Kennedy
Johnson
Nixon
Ford
Carter
Reagan
Then, compare domestic and foreign polices of your four (4) presidents by answering the following prompts:
Explain how your selected presidents worked to improve the United States economically and socially. Give at least one example of each president.
Assess if the policies of your choice of presidents strengthen or weaken the United States.
Explain how you see your choice of presidents served the public interest and further the cause of democracy.
Determine if it is constitutional for the United States to fight preemptive wars.
Determine if human rights and morality should be the cornerstones of United State foreign policy.

Rasmussen College Superhero Story Batman Presentation
Develop: PresentationEvaluation Title: Monomyth and Superhero, Recycled ThemesHeroes have always been a part of written stories. Heroes from Greek mythology often had super-human characteristics, but also had fatal flaws, and often met with tragic ends because of these flaws. The era post World War I and II created comic book heroes that did not seem to have any flaws. The current super-heroes all seem to be dark heroes – heroes that may not always do acceptable (legal) things, but overall may have good intentions. One similarity that many hero stories share is the monomyth, or hero’s journey, as you read about in this week’s unit. Be sure to address the following in your presentation:Discuss how the character of one Hero or Superhero (fictional) reflects the times that they are written. You may select a fictional hero from any era, however, you should be comfortable describing that era’s culture as well.Explain why this hero would resonate with the general era in which they were written.Describe the elements of the monomyth that are apparent in this hero’s story. HINT! Utilize a template like the one listed below to break down each part of the monomyth.Specifications:Submission: A 10-12 slide PowerPoint presentation or Prezi that answers the questions posed above. Include speaker notes or a voice-over, images, and videos where applicable. If you choose the voice-over option, you will upload your recording web link (URL). In your presentation:Provide speaker’s notes or a voice over on the PowerPoint to accompany each slide. If you choose speaker’s notes, the total word count of your notes should be 800-1000 words. If you choose to create a voice-over recording your presentation should be 5-7 minutes long.Include a title slide and include your references page in APA format on the last slide of the presentation.Helpful Resources:A visual overview of the Monomyth/Hero’s Journey can be found at https://thetrojanwar.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/monomyth.jpg (Links to an external site.).Prezi would be especially interesting to use for this assignment! Walden University Week 3 Leadership Social Work Discussion
Respond to at least two colleagues by addressing an example in each colleague’s post in at least one of the following ways:Suggest a strategy for addressing a situation that your colleague described in one of his or her examples.Offer additional thoughts regarding the impact of the interaction described in the example.Be sure to use reference.DB 1Emilio—Post how a social work administrator’s personal leadership philosophy and style may influence a human services organization’s culture. There are many ways a person’s philosophy could affect the human service's internal organizational culture. Northhouse describes some of these philosophies but first states that identifying the category a person can fall under is essential to realize what type of supervisor one will be and what one can expect from individuals. By understanding one’s category, one can understand how to relate to their subordinates better. Furthermore, these philosophies break down two general theories called Theory X and Theory Y (Northouse, 2021).Using the theories, one can further understand that the leader’s philosophy affects how they view their subordinates and can subconsciously dictate how they produce their work. The outcome could be more productive and happier employees assisting individuals in the human service organization. In contrast, it could produce unhappy employees, provide terrible service to the clients they serve, and produce unsatisfied and unserved clients. Also, explain how the organization’s culture might influence a social work administrator’s personal leadership style. The organization's general direction by its administrators will direct and ultimately dictate the general influence the organization will produce unto its employees and members of the organization. This would also depend on the administrators' style of leadership. This may include if the person has a dictatorship style or allows their subordinates to participate in the way they are supervised by allowing them to vote on decisions and having a supervisor with a carefree attitude (Northouse, 2021).Depending on the manner the individual decides to supervise may be the way the organization responds to them. As an example, if the administrator has an authoritarian style or micro-manager style, the organization’s culture could feel thwarted in their work and become cynical (Jiang et al., 2017). While having a supervisor that is too relaxed could also lower the organization's productivity (Martin, 2021).Finally, explain how interactions with stakeholders may ultimately impact the organization’s treatment of clients. Be sure to provide specific examples in your explanations. One has to remember that an organization is formed to create services that people are in need of, and members of the organizations, including administrators and subordinates, provide those said services. However, it is the organizations' stakeholders that may ultimately decide what services could be provided by the organization (Carroll, 1991). As such, as is in any business, a service organization's success will rely on the stakeholder's ideology and how well they decide to follow through with the stakeholder's decisions in the organization's mission. If specific stakeholders disagree with how the other stakeholders uphold the organization's mission statements, then the results may be disastrous. However, if all the stakeholders carry the same vision and believe in the organization's betterment, the organization will most likely be successful.ReferenceCarroll, Archie B. (1991). The Pyramids of Corporate Social Responsibility: Toward the Moral Management of Organizational Stakeholders. Business HorizonsJiang, Hongyan, Yang, Chen, Sun, Peizhen, and Yang, Jun. (05/2017). The Relationship between Authoritarian Leadership and Employees’ Deviant Workplace Behaviors: The Mediating Effects of Psychological Contract Violation and Organizational Cynicism. doi: 10.3389/fpsyg.2017.00732Martin, Melanie, J. (2021). Do Relaxed Working Environments Lower Productivity? Retrieved from https://smallbusiness.chron.com/relaxed-working-en...Northouse, P. G. (2021). Introduction to leadership: Concepts and practice (5th ed.). Washington, DC: SageDB 2Jacqui—A social work administrator’s personal leadership philosophy and style would influence a human services organization’s culture greatly. People naturally feed off of one another and if someone is negative or has a negative work ethic then that will rub off on other people. Also, if the staff sees the manager not doing their work, they will start to not do their work as well. “Each of us approaches leadership with a unique set of beliefs and attitudes about the nature of people and the nature of work” according to Northouse (Northouse, 2021, p. 57). This best describes our philosophy of leadership. These beliefs about the people and work relationship have a very important impact on a person’s leadership style. They also most likely come into play in every aspect of a person’s leadership. The culture of an organization might influence a social work administrator’s personal leadership style because people adapt to their surroundings. If the organization is laid back, or run by laid back people, the employees will most likely be laid back as well. On the other hand, if the organization is uptight and frigid, the employees will most likely behave that way as well. The vibe or a place is definitely felt by its employees and clients. I strongly believe that to be a good manager or leader you need to have a balance of being friendly and being stern. You need to recognize that you are there to be people’s leaders, not their friends or family or buddy. They need direction, support, and to be led in the organization and that is what you are there to do. I think that I would be much more of a theory Y person than a theory X person. I tend to agree that people can like their work, are self-motivated, and accept and seek responsibility. At least the good employees are this way. Who would want to even hire a theory X person who does not like work, needs to be directed and controlled, and want security and not responsibility? That just sounds like a miserable work environment. I truly believe that an organizations employees and leaders speak for the organization and represent that organization. Even the stakeholders represent their company. Look at big organizations that a stakeholder gets caught doing something inappropriate. The entire organization then suffers because people then do not want to be associated with that organization. Especially in the social administration organizations, we have a reputation to uphold. When in doubt, lead by example. ReferencesNorthouse, P. G. (2021). Introduction to leadership: Concepts and practice (5th ed.). Washington, DC: Sage.
