Community Policing Case Studies |
Compare two of the “Cop in Action” case studies from Chapters
Three, Four, or Five of the textbook. Oliver, W. (2008). Community-oriented policing: A systematic approach to policing (4th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Education, Inc. Describe the specific details that
identify the course of action as a representation of one of the
three policing models described. What characteristics specific to that
particular policing model lead to successful implementation within the case
study
There is a difference between community-oriented policing and police-community relations. Community-oriented policing is when the community takes it upon themselves to enforce law in the area that they are living. They ensure that they guard the community against any cases about that interfere with the security of the society. On the other hand, police-community relations refer to the affiliation that the police has with the community (Oliver, 2008). The police and community need to ensure that they have an association that has open channels of communication where they can both correspond with one another.
Police-community relations and community-oriented policing interact with each other as both have the same objectives. Both initiatives are meant to ensure that security is upheld in the community. Therefore, both initiatives depend on one another to ensure that these objectives are achieved. The philosophical or theoretical changes happen over time as more people realized the importance of ensuring that security is attained in all communities (Brown, 2002). The police and the community realized the importance and value that they get from working together to ensure that security is upheld at all times. Therefore, police-community relations and community-oriented policing are co-related and both work towards ensuring that security is upheld at all times.
