Suffering is a natural part of life there are many types of suffering such as: depression, stress, substance abuse, PTSD, and the list goes on. We all encounter suffering at some time in our lives I believe; although it is important to learn how to deal or even accept suffering effectively. The role of a counselor is not to remove all suffering but to provide the client with an outlet for their frustrations and sorrow. Suffering people do not need instruction but they need someone to sit aside them and to share the misery of what they are going through. A counselor should create a safe place for the client to freely express themselves. I believe that prayer is important for Christian counselors, first they should be able to pray for themselves asking God for patience and wisdom to help those who are suffering. And they should also pray for the clients deliverance to be healed and restored by God. Scripture states in 1Peter 5:10 "And God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Another way that counselors can help the suffering is by giving them different methods of coping; such as partake in physical activity, attending support groups and being able to vent, setting goals, and reflecting on their strengths. Coping effectively supports our physical and mental health. So as counselors it is not our job to remove all suffering, but to walk hand-in-hand through the hard times and strengthen them with love and support
