Running head: DIVERSITY IN WORKPLACE Diversity in the Workplace: In Business Capstone Jazmin Filer Rasmussen College Author Note This project paper is being submitted on September 09, 2014, for Ryan Averbeck's B280/GEB2930 Section 01 Business Capstone Course. 1 Diversity is known as the variety of difference between people and especially in their backgrounds. In most cases, the difference is exposes through age, ethnic, culture, race, religion, sexual orientation and the physical abilities. A business is affected by diversity through societal perspectives whereby employer or employees tends to turn down applicants who are based on their own race, age, gender and also religion (Streater, 199). The major function of the business is affected through consideration of race, gender and ethnic within the business workplace. Certainly, a business is also affected by diversity through employees, employers and client’s perspectives. This aspect explores that, different groups of people brings different viewpoints in the business and attribute to workplace diversity. My business is affected by diversity as a result of perspectives, religion and ethnicity backgrounds. In a clear concise, the variety of different native languages as well as cultures does not mix together preferably when working. Most of the products which are being sold are not actually purchased by certain group. This affects the business through productivity, exports and distribution (Hubbard, 2004). The trade which is taking place in my business is certainly affected by diversity because some ethnic groups do not engage totally in the trade of goods and services. The other was which diversity affects my business is through communication, opportunities, structure and leadership. The communication and especially inter-personal communication requires awareness and responsibilities but the diversity affects the appropriate communication between the employee, supervisors, clients and employers. Creation of opportunities within my business is also affected by diversity since most of these opportunities are given to people of the same race, religion and gender. Since opportunities within the business is guaranteed for any individual as long as he or she is qualified, the diversity affects through major relations like favoritism of culture, perspectives and discrimination of age or sex orientation (Orfield, 2001). Another diversity challenge which impacts my business is various group of race which is assigned to positions in same working conditions. There are vast differences in these people hence they cannot get along together. This is because most of them are unfamiliar with other people’s cultures and also their perspectives. As a result, the operation of my business is impacted since working conditions are interrupted and interfered with. References Streater, C. (1999). Running head: COMPENSATION AND PRICING Team Building: In Business Capstone Jazmin Filer Rasmussen College Author Note This project paper is being submitted on August 10, 2014, for Ryan Averbeck's B280/GEB2930 Section 01 Business Capstone Course. 1 COMPENSATION AND PRICING 2 Paying employees too much or little can affect an enterprise’s ability in attracting and retaining good talent. Job seekers also tend to put a premium on value benefits over the pay as they weigh the pros and cons of joining a new outfit. Start by reviewing the completeness and accuracy of the job postings with similar positions with comparable skills, duties, and qualifications. You can then assess if proposed scales are competitive in comparison with similar positions requiring same expertise and experience. Further research on the median wages can be done for jobs producing wage information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics. Information from the public sector job databases can act as a good guide (Satvinder et al, 2007). Historical pay scales for employees as well as reviewing wages to determine for currency fluctuations and adjustment scales based on the cost of living are important determiners too. Finally, the proposed pay should be discussed with a specialist or organization’s financial officer. Setting prices can be challenging for running a successful business. Having competitive prices is important in ensuring making profits. You should figure out the cost of the direct materials and labor associated with your product. The overheads in offering the product/service should also be factored in. This may not directly contribute to the cost of product/service however. The break-even point which is where the costs and income are equal should be considered too. Compare the prices and offerings of your competitors to see which goods/services are required in the marketplace. Don’t just lower prices but can add value to your COMPENSATION AND PRICING 3 product to have an edge over them. Finally, consider the current state of the industry and the overall economy to be able to make sound business decisions (Lamb, 2009). COMPENSATION AND PRICING 4 References Lamb, C. W., Hair, J. TEAM BUILDING 1 Team Building: In Business Capstone Jazmin Filer Rasmussen College Author Note This project paper is being submitted on August 10, 2014, for Ryan Averbeck's B280/GEB2930 Section 01 Business Capstone Course. TEAM BUILDING 2 When running a child care business, it is very crucial to make essential decisions since the business is a critical business given that it deals with small kids who require special attention and treatment. There are situations that call for a group decision to be involved. For instance, if the decision to be made is critical, it requires several people to consolidate hence reducing possible chances of omission or errors in the final judgment (Charles T. Schmidt, 2014). Involving a team creates a greater pool of information. When the involved parties or team members have similar interests and goals and can be trusted to consider the decision carefully, it becomes essential and necessary to involve the group members in the decision making. Another best scenario that may call for a group decision making is when it is necessary for the teams involved to unanimously accept the decision made. This will therefore create a sense of ownership and will motivate the members to ensure the fulfillment of such decisions (Uoregon, 2009). For the decision making to be effective, there needs to be specific types of members in the panel. The most important types of members in this business should be parents who have kids. Parents who have kids will have a greater interest in their children’s wellbeing so every effort will be for the good of the business and the involved parties. Daycare child professionals should also play a role in the decision making team. Considering their level of professionalism, their useful information will be very critical and essential for the success of the business. There are sometimes however that will require a solitary decision to be made. Making group decisions involves consulting several people and this hence means that time will be consumed in the process. This method might not be essential in cases where decisions need to be made very fast. Consulting the teams would consume time and this might even result to possible damages due to late implementation of the decisions (CMAA, 1999). TEAM BUILDING 3 Reference: Charles T. Schmidt, J. L. Project on Childcare I am getting my degree in Business Management but for my project I picked a child care business, because I want to run my own in the near future plus have over eight years of experience. If you read online news articles on a number of web sites from Yahoo! to Google, you will find a recurring theme. There are books, magazine articles, and television specials related to the problem. There are more things to do in a day than there are hours to do them. There are a lot of issues relating to the children care are found. As the government are doing his job quite well but there are also some sort of responsibility on us to make aware the peoples about childcare and help them. Just because of we are in touch with them by regular interaction. They know us well and we also know them well. Actually child care is the supervision of the children’s usually form age of six to thirteen. Normally child care involve in day-center, baby sitter and other providers. There are a large range of the tasks that should be included in the child care. In which the business ethics also plays the vital role in both the quality of services and profitability of the firm. Actually child care is a broad topic having different activities, cultural and social convention and institutions. Children are the future assets for the country prosperity therefore it should be properly deal and managed. The business that is being proposed would use the need of the child care services as the opportunity for their business. It is being giving the services to solve the problem of child care because in now a day the household cannot give proper time to their children. Since there is an opportunity cost and trade of for each choice, it would be up to potential customers whether they would rather pay someone to assist them with certain tasks or try to do it all themselves. The company will advertise itself not as a cleaning service or a babysitting company but as a lifestyle Project on Childcare management service. The employees will be background checked, bonded, and insured. They will be available for helping the peoples through the provision of quality services regarding the children’s care. Any errands or tasks that fall into household management would be acceptable. There would be a per hour fee for each client and it would be up to the client how often they want help whether it is one hour per week or more or ten hours for one time only. All in our entire project must follow the moral management approach for their business ethics. Which is suitable and best fitted for the scenarios. This approach emphasizes the economic responsibility, legal responsibility. Ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility. By this approach our project can achieve a good corporate social responsibility and hence they have highlighted their image among their competitors. This attracts the customers to itself. And through this the project can achieve its profitability.
