Description
Explain how a person can be dead when 99% of his or her cells are still alive, provide examples for your explanation.
Explanation & Answer
99% death results from cardiac death where the cardiovascular system stops functioning. The heart in this case does not beat any longer and the chest goes flat without any motions noted. However, the individual can still be 1% live when the brain cells are still functioning. This percentage of life is contributed or marked by responsiveness and the presence of a reflexes. When a neurologist tests on the breath of the dead individual using a ventilator, positive results are attained. In this condition, the patient is therefore declared 1% alive but 99 percent dead.
