West Coast University Advertisement for A Nursing Program Analysis
Discussion prompt Provide an analysis of this advertisement for a nursing program. This is not a summary; make sure that you offer an interpretation of the advertisement and that you “read between the lines" in order to address each aspect of analysis:AudiencePurposeContentMoodStyleStructureIn addition to your main response, you must also post substantive responses to at least two of your classmates' posts in this thread. Your response should include elements such as follow up questions, further exploration of topics from the initial post, or requests for further clarification or explanation on some points made by the classmates.Comment 1This advertising shows two examples of nursing. In both images, both nurses are standing professionally, with a nice posture. Both nurses are smiling and look very pleasant and ready to help. The advertising on the left conveys that Nurse Emma, from the emergency room, is a competent nurse who knows the job well. With just one look at a patient, Emma is prepared and has great judgment. On the right side, there is Nurse Izzy also from the emergency room. It seemed like Izzy performed CPR on a patient who coded, "Roy's heart fluttered". Izzy looks emotionally stable and calm. The advertisement is an example of what great and confident nurses look like. Comment 2The purpose of these two ads for a nursing program was to convey that nursing may seem like a sweet, dainty job, but in reality, it's a serious career with huge responsibility. The goal of that message is to recruit potential nurses who are ready for the job. I believe the targeted audience is young to middle aged professional women. Both ads pictured white blond women who appeared to be 20-35 years old. The purpose is to sell the possibility of a respected career while also weeding out individuals who aren't willing to take it seriously. The first sentence of each ad sounds very romantic by suggesting you can find love in a nursing career but then gives a serious statement about having to treat patients with broken bones and heart issues. It's possible that the ads are stating both; you can be a cute nurse and find romance while saving lives and helping others. At the bottom of the ad, there appears to be the featured character's signature with "Emergency Department" written below their name. The ad wants the audience to picture their name written on the bottom of the add and imagine themselves as a happy woman wearing scrubs working in the ED. This style of writing on the bottom creates a response. The ads appealed to the audience's needs to belong, to have status, and to identify with those they admire. The advertising techniques used were appealing to emotion, using a testimonial, and association.

Designing Qualitative Research Discussion
As you recall from earlier weeks, various philosophical orientations hold unique epistemological and ontological assumptions. These assumptions return to the forefront of attention when considering how to evaluate the rigor or quality of various qualitative research designs.Typically, when speaking of validity, qualitative researchers are referring to research that is credible and trustworthy, i.e., the extent to which one can have confidence in the study’s findings (Lincoln & Guba, 1985). Generalizability, a marker of reliability, is typically not the main purpose of qualitative research because the researcher rarely selects a random sample with a goal to generalize to a population or to other settings and groups. Rather, a qualitative researcher’s goal is often to understand a unique event or a purposively selected group of individuals. Therefore, when speaking of reliability, qualitative researchers are typically referring to research that is consistent or dependable (Lincoln & Guba, 1985), i.e., the extent to which the findings of the study are consistent with the data that was collected. For this Discussion, you will explain the criteria for evaluating the quality of qualitative research and consider the connection of such criteria to philosophical orientations. You will also consider the ethical implications of designing qualitative research. With these thoughts in mind:Post an explanation of two criteria for evaluating the quality of qualitative research designs. Next, explain how these criteria are tied to epistemological and ontological assumptions underlying philosophical orientations and the standards of your discipline. Then, identify a potential ethical issue in qualitative research and explain how it might influence design decisions. Finally, explain what it means for a research topic to be amenable to scientific study using a qualitative approach.Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.
