What caused the illness? What foods cause this?

timer Asked: Nov 10th, 2014

Question description

A group of seniors from a local community decided to take a trip.  They ordered box lunches from a local catering company.  The lunches arrived just before 7 a.m. on a warm summer morning on the day of the tour.  They were immediately placed in the luggage compartment of the bus.  The boxes contained chicken salad, sliced ham sandwiches, a small cup of fruit, a bag of chips, and a brownie.  The bus pulled into a picnic area around noon and the lunches were passed out.  Within the hour 16 seniors got sick.  What caused the illness?  What were the likely foods that caused the illnesses?  What could have been done to prevent it?  What was a more appropriate food choice for the seniors?
