"Play" is an important part of a development appropriate curriculum because "Play" can help a child learn important aspects of imagination, creativity, language development social competence and thinking skills.

"Play" supports a child's physical, cognitive and affective development through out their young lives by teaching the child simple motor skills like placing a block on another block or a child playing baseball supports their eye hand coordination. Learning these skills also are support the child's cognitive development which also supports the child's affective development because they will have the cognitive ability  to articulate emotion.
