Description
We affixed stones on the end of a 7,5meter long rope and 3m from its end. We soon released the rope and we dropped the stones from a bridge into a river. We measured 0,15 s time between the stones' splashing. How high is the bridge over the water?
Explanation & Answer
As the rope is 7.5 meters long, the bridge has to be at least that high.
Now the in 0.15 seconds a stone travel s = 1/2 gt^2 = 1/2 x 9.8 x 0.15 x 0.15 = 0.11 m
Therefore the total height of the bridge is 7.5 + 0.11 = 7.61 meters
Answer : 7.61 meters
