Question description

At the end of the nineteen century, there was a reaction against industrialism, evident in artistic styles such as Symbolism, Art Nouveau and Impressionism. They were all encouraged by Eduard Manet, the controversial realist who is considered to be the first artist that had challenged conventional academic painting. Though their works were not as technically daring as those of the later modernists, they helped to break the power of official institutions and acclimatize public to the spare and abstract style of Modernism. Provide some examples and try to explain them.
