Now that you’ve learned about diffusion, osmosis, and tonicity, you should understand the underlying principle behind the example experiment from Lab 1. Go back to the Controls and Variables handout, and use your knowledge of the process of cellular osmosis to formulate a hypothesis about the effect of soaking potato cells in different sucrose concentrations, along with an experiment that tests your hypothesis. Similarly to what you did for the pillbug experiment, write a brief lab report (following the format specified in “Lab Reports: Formatting”) summarizing how you would design and execute this experiment. You already have the results, so basically work backwards from there - State your null and alternative hypotheses, identify independent, dependent, and standardized variables, and describe how you set up a control group. Be specific about the materials and methods you would use in this experiment, and write the report as if you actually did the experiment. A MS Excel graph of your experimental data is a must, and I'd suggest using a table to show your data as well. Once you’ve recorded the data (results), state your conclusions and how you drew them from your results (i.e. was your hypothesis supported?why or why not?)

Choose an entrée for your presentation. Select from rainbow trout, Chilean sea bass, or Caesar salad (which includes anchovy, Parmesan cheese, oil, lettuce, and egg).
Include the following for each entrée:
Explain the ingredient's journey from source to plate. Consider where the ingredient is harvested or caught, the way it is transported to the restaurant it is served in, and how long that journey takes.
Identify the ingredient's environmental impacts from agriculture and farming strategies, toxins introduced into the environment, impacts of transportation, and the ingredient processing. Consider how the aquaculture or commercial fishing methods impact the environment such as the impact of fish farms on wild populations, a species vulnerability to fishing pressure, and how bycatch may be impacting the environment.
Discuss how easily available the ingredient is for different populations around the world. Consider how easy it is to purchase the ingredient, the demand globally (its popularity), and how seafood seasons affect its availability.
