Explanation & Answer

(1) Recruitment- RNA polymerase and accessory proteins (GIFs) bind to promoter (sequence of bases on DNA).

(2) Initiation- Double helix is unwound.  RNA poly begins putting together the corresponding nucleic acids.

(3) Elongation- RNA poly moves away from promoter, along the RNA template, synthesizing the full chain of RNA.

(4) Termination- A sequence of bases (terminator) tells RNA poly to stop.  Finished RNA and RNA poly are released.
