Question Description

Session 11

The EU and China

The EU describes China as a partner, competitor, and rival … depending on the circimstances. The relationship is increasingly close and complicated. Points of contact and contention touch on trade and investment, including Huawei’s involvement in new 5G networks and several EU member states’ participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. EU attitudes towards China are deeply influenced by the increasingly tense interaction between China and the United States. As with everything else, EU-China relations may change completely in the post-Coronavirus crisis world.
