Question Description

Please read through the lab. After you do- here is a very basic video explaining some of the basics of an RC circuit

We will be discussing capacitors in class this week. Here are some questions for you to answer and submit once you have had a chance to absorb the concept. Capacitors and RC circuits are expained in the following location in your text book:

Please submit the following questions for your lab grade:

A) Write a summary of what was shown in each of the 8 videos from Step-by-Step science. What I expect is a brief summary of the basics of each of the videos (2 or 3 sentences for each of the videos)

Then answer the following

1. What is the meaning of the time constant, RC?
2. Show that RC has units of time.
3. Why isn’t the time constant defined to be the time it takes the capacitor to become fully
charged or discharged?
4. Explain conceptually why the time constant is larger for increased resistance.
5. What does an oscilloscope measure?
6. Draw and label a graph that shows the voltage across a capacitor that is charging and
discharging (as in this experiment).
