Question Description

The shaft assembly shown below transfers a power of 10 hp between gear at C and pulley at D. The shaft which is 50mm in diameter is supported by a 15 degrees double row angular-contact ball bearing at A and a single row ball bearing at B. The bearing at B provides freedom of movement along the shaft. The bearings are externally mounted on the shaft. The gear at C is a helical gear and the tangential force acting on it is tilted 30 degrees about z-axis on the xy plane, as shown in the figure. The bearings are expected to experience light shocks during their service. The design requires a survival rate of 95%. Determine the life of the bearing at A in hrs. Note: The assembly is in static equilibrium.
