MAE 316 Main Project Spring 2020 April 21, 2020 Consider a rectangular domain. The flux on the domain is q = −κ∇T (1) while the source term is equal to zero. The dimensions of the domain are Lx (horizontal direction) by Ly (vertical direction). The entire left boundary of the domain is held at a fixed temperature TA , while the bottom half of the right boundary is held at a fixed temperature TB . The rightmost half of the top boundary has a fixed influx of heat equal to qfixed . All other boundaries are insulated. Derive the governing equation and write out a mathematical expression for the boundary conditions. Discretize (assume a regular mesh) with M intervals in the horizontal direction and N intervals in the vertical direction. Use finite differences to derive stencils for the governing equation and all boundaries. There will be seven stencils in total.
