During the management meeting the Chief Executive Officer raised his concern on Sparkle’s existing financial instruments and instructed the financial directors to provide information regarding; 1. The par value of the issued debt instrument is OMR 800,000 with a coupon rate of 2%. The directly attributable cost of issue was OMR 20,000. The debt instrument is repayable by Sparkle on 31st December 2020 at a premium of OMR 90,000. 2. On 1 April 2016, Sparkle SAOG issued 40,000 redeemable preference shares with a par value of $100 each to investors at $75. The shares are redeemable at par on 30 March 2021 and have a coupon rate of 3%. The effective rate of interest is 16%. You are required to: 1. Calculate the total amount of finance cost associated with the debt instrument issued on 01st January 2011 (5 marks) 2. How would these redeemable preference shares appear in the financial statements of Sparke SAOG for the years ending 30 March 2017, 30 March 2018 and 30 March 2019? This idea has only recently gained traction in the corporate world, but now that it has, the triple bottom line is driving the decision-making of the world’s top brands.
