Question Description

Discuss the role of African American women in the Civil Rights Movement. It was not just men involved in the organizing, campaigning, and tireless work. Who was involved and how? Why do you think this critical aspect of the Civil Rights Movement has been erased from public memory and our general history books (which always discuss Rosa Parks and MLK, and sometimes Malcolm X, but few people beyond that)?

You could also read some of the links under the News of the Now section -- those on LGBTQ leaders in the Civil Rights Movement and this to your discussion of women and other groups that have traditionally been erased from the discussion of the CRM.
