Berkeley College Small Start Up in Business Discussion Question
In 2007 the Star Ledger newspaper told of a young man (unnamed for his own protection) in Newark who witnessed a murder while walking home one day. It was a territorial drug dispute that didn’t even involve the murder victim who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man who witnessed the murder recognized a couple of the assailants who also recognized him. He ran and wasn’t found until police discovered him during investigations. He knew the right thing but he also knew he could put himself, his wife, and young child in danger. There are laws to protect witnesses in NJ but these laws are not always effective. Some witnesses to such murders had been murdered by gang members eager to protect themselves. The man in the news article eventually agreed to testify when police promised to relocate him and his family to Puerto Rico. For our discussions this week, answer the following questions and then interact with the postings of others.1) Talk to another person you know about Kant’s moral principle of a categorical duty to never make yourself the exception to a duty you’d expect others to follow (the categorical imperative). What does this person think about it? Do either of you believe there is ever such a thing as an unquestionable moral duty and, if so, how would that apply to the murder witness in this case? If you think a witness to such a murder would be right to say nothing, explain if and when it is ever justifiable to follow a duty that could seriously cost you personally.2) From the article "How to be True to Your Word" (LINK (Links to an external site.)), do you think the following statement about lying is true? Share your thoughts: "We may think our lying is for a good reason: to keep from insulting or wounding someone we care about, to avoid our own discomfort, to smooth over conflict or to make someone happy. Really, though, we most often lie to make our own reality more comfortable" (Cat Thompson, "How to be True to Your Word", Experience Life, 2012). What about the so-called "white lie"? Is this kind of lie, sometimes called a pro-social lie, something morally justifiable as you see it, or not?https://experiencelife.com/article/how-to-be-true-to-your-word/

HUM 112 Strayer University Week 3 Transatlantic Slave Trade Discussion Paper
Week 3 DiscussionEach week we will be looking at a set period from our past. Although these are our ancestors, it will seem like we are studying a distant planet, inhabited by people with the strangest of habits. Fortunately, these subjects of our observation give us abundant clues about who they are. Their art, their writing, their technology, the way they do business, the way they govern themselves all feed into a picture we will attempt to paint for ourselves each week. Understanding who they were will help us understand who we are. Each week you will be given three or four questions pertaining to important topics covered in the materials provided in the question itself, the textbook, the lectures, the other materials provided, and my comments in my Live Session. You choose the one question you like and post a response of 125 words or more. You also need to respond to another post from one of your fellow students. This second post should be at least 60 or so words long and should not just agree with or repeat what has been said. Please always use an example that has not already been used in the discussion. Imagine that you have been sent by Starfleet Command or by your boss (whichever you prefer to report to) to observe two foreign and strange civilizations. One civilization is called "the American Revolution" and the other is called "the French Revolution". Each has certain defining characteristics and one country's outcome was very different from the other's. How was their approach to both revolution and ruling different and similar? Was one more successful than the other? With the death of Louis XIV, the tightly controlled court at Versailles split apart. French aristocrats established their own courts at their home and these were called salons. The stars of these salons were the Philosophes. They were like the rock stars of their time. They were philosophers who promoted a set of ideas about the relationship between the government and the governed. Choose one of these philosophers and explain what how he described that relationship. Our textbook has a good section on them beginning on page 842.Between 1492 and 1509, the Spanish managed to enslave or exterminate virtually all Native Americans living in the Caribbean basin. Many of them died of European diseases and many of them were worked to death. The entire Spanish plan was built around a large enslaved workforce. When it became apparent Native Americans would not be the source of this workforce, the Spanish made the decision to acquire and import enslaved people from Africa. From then on people from Africa, people with dark skin were almost always slaves in the Americas. All other European countries adopted the same approach and race became so tightly enmeshed with the idea of slavery that we are still dealing with it. This established what came to be known as the Transatlantic Slave Trade. How did it work and who benefited the most from it?The Rococo is the next step in the artistic movements of Europe that we will study. Using two Rococo artists explain just what Rococo is. Please use specific works by each artist. How do the characteristics of Rococo Style tell us about the time in which they were created?Your book does a great job explaining Chinese/European interactions in Chapter 25. How did that interaction work? Who saw the most benefit from the relationship? How do you think European interactions back then effect present day relationships with China and the other countries the Europeans encountered during this time?

Northern Virginia Community College Social Capital by Vance Questions
Please follow the journal guideline found in Module 1.2 Journal to complete the assignment. After reading about social stratification, you are more informed about how factors such as social class, wealth, race, and generational influence affect a person's chances for upward social mobility during a lifetime. For this assignment, you will be watching a short lecture by JD Vance, author of Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis. The book is autobiographical and fits into rural sociology and studies of regional culture in Appalachia. Here is a brief synopsis of the book (Links to an external site.).America's Forgotten Working Class [Duration 14:42] (Links to an external site.)If you want more of JD's story, watch this interview with Megyn Kelly: Best-Selling Author Opens Up About His Painful Childhood And The Future Ahead [Duration 13:24] (Links to an external site.)In your journal entry, include the following questions for reflection in your paper:Based on what you have learned about Vance, discuss the two institutions in society that you think were the most influential in shaping his opportunities for a better life. How does Vance describe social capital and why was he lacking social capital when he went to both the Marine corps and Yale? What is the overall message of this man's personal story that has larger indicators for wealth and stratification in America? What is meant by the "forgotten working class" in America?

HIST 1302 University Texas at Arlington US History Since 1865 Paper
I need to complete a Untest by August 31, 2020. UNTEST INFORMATION as follows:Here is your first clue that the Untest is a different form of testing - it comes at the beginning of the Unit and not at the end and I encourage everyone to talk about the course materials through participation avenues (Piazza and video comments) to gain a deeper understanding of the history, which will improve your Untest submission. So discuss the history and what you think is important, but post no part of your Untest or craft Untest responses via Piazza or any other means.Start thinking about the Untest as you work through Unit 1 (The American Yamp chapter 15-18) - no need to cram at the end. Answer the Guiding Questions (in your head or in your notes) as you move through each lesson and case study (this will also help you deepen your understanding of materials for the Untest), engage in Piazza discussion over the unit, pay attention to the video discussions, etc. As you work through the unit, take notes, including good questions and explanations for Untest answers. That way, when you have completed the unit, all you will have to do is simply choose the best answers for the Untest from what you have already put down in your notes.Open the file to view your Untest. The upload for the Untest will be at the end of this unit, the last item in the list below. The grading rubric is also available by clicking on the assignment upload link. The American Yamp - http://www.americanyawp.com/index.htmlI attached examples and requirements for untest.
