Description
A pharmacist must calculate the shelf life for an antibiotic. The antibiotic is stored as a solid and a fresh solution must be prepared for the patient. The antibiotic is unstable in solution and decomposes according to the following data:
Time (days) | [Antibiotic] (mol/L) |
0 | 1.24 x 10-2 |
10. | 0.92 x 10-2 |
20. | 0.68 x 10-2 |
30. | 0.50 x 10-2 |
40. | 0.37 x 10-2 |
This is a first order process.
Question 1
Calculate the half-life for the antibiotic. The units should be in days and should be calculated to three significant figures
Calculate the rate constant (with appropriate units) for a first order reaction which is 30.0% complete in 363 s.How long will it take for the reaction to go to 95.5% completion?

Oakton Community College Nanotechnology and Its Medical Applications Discussion
Genetic engineering has become a part of our culture, and it is difficult to tell the difference between unmodified and genetically modified food sources, such as plants and animals. After reading this module's material regarding vectors in biotechnology, consider the potential for nanotechnology and gene therapy. For your initial discussion post, research nanotechnology and its potential use in biotechnology. Explain the potential advantages and disadvantages of nanotechnology in healthcare and discuss whether you would or would not support further research.
