PCC Political Science Discussion
Chapter 1 005
Take a look at your favorite news source, find an event that made headlines that's of interest to you. Determine if an "ideology" was a factor in either making this a newsworthy event or a factor in the event itself. In other words, answer one of the two sets of possible questions: Is this event important and newsworthy because of an accepted ideology in our society? Why did it make the news? Should it have? What ideology is at play to make it newsworthy?
Or... Did this event happen because of an individual or a groups ideology? Did the individual or group believe in an "ideology" and then act on it? What was the ideology? What are your thoughts?
In order to answer this, you'll need to ensure you understand the textbook's working definition on an "ideology". We will spend a lot of time this semester talking about various ideologies, so it's important that you are able to identify not only in historical reference but in contemporary everyday events.
**Reminder:
I have high expectations for all of you and expect quality work. Here are a few reminders about getting the most points on these discussions:
You must post an answer first before you're able to read your classmates posts. Be sure to review the orientation module for the requirements for discussions. Your response should well written and researched, and your response to your classmates should be just as substantial as your initial post. One or two sentence responses will not receive credit. Remember these are graded assignments, correct spelling, punctuation and grammar are taken into consideration. Please do not use color, bold, special font or headings. There's no need for a header (do not include your name, my name, class name, date etc.) simply click "reply" and start typing. Your response should be in paragraph form. No need to retype the questions, I know what they are. And lastly.... don't forget to cite your sources..
Chapter 1 007
Write down your definition of power. List at least two examples of power in your own personal life and then two examples of power in world politics. Discuss your findings and relate them to power in the international system. How does this power affect your life? How does it affect international politics? Should there be limits to power?
