Explanation & Answer

Heat Treatment is defined as the controlled heating and cooling of metals to alter their physical and mechanical properties without changing the product shape. Heat treatment is sometimes done inadvertently due to manufacturing processes that either heat or cool the metal such as welding or forming.

why is it done?

following are some reasons

We heat treat metals in an attempt to optimise the mechanical and physical properties for a given application. Most people think of heat treatment as a process for hardening metal. This is not necessarily so, as many heat treatments are applied to soften metal in order to allow metal working operations such as deep drawing, cold forging and machining.
