Explanation & Answer

The characters of Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell (the accused and the accuser) could be compared and contrasted.  They are similar in that both are impoverished, neither is educated, and both are stigmatized by the community (Mayella is a poor white, and Tom is an African-American laborer in a segregated community in 1935 Alabama).

The differences are equally striking; Mayella is willing to risk an innocent man's life to save face, while Tom is a respectable, hard-working man who is truthful regardless of the consequences.

I hope this helps.
