Work your way through this Web Quest to learn more about the ancient Israelites.

The Hebrews lived in Canaan for many years as nomads.Canaan was the land which now includes Israel, Lebanon, and parts of Syria and Jordan.It was rich in timber in the northern part, called Phoenicia (now called Lebanon) and farmland in the valleys of the Jordan River.It formed a trading link between Africa and Asia, and many civilizations who wanted to build their empires there fought over it.These included the Egyptians, the Romans, the Greeks, and the Babylonians.

Abraham and his wife were already old when they left their home and set out for Canaan.They had no children of their own at that time but traveled with other relatives.When Abraham was 100 years old, and his wife, Sarah, was 90, they finally had a child.They named him Isaac.Abraham, Isaac, and Isaac’s son, Jacob, are called the “fathers” of the Jewish people.
