FSW Hamlet by William Shakespeare Act 3 Scene 3 Analytical Review
Introduction
There is no substitution for seeing theater in person. However, given the limitations of time and place, this assignment will explore theater through script and a video of a production realizing that script.
It is a cliché to regard Shakespeare’s Hamlet as the greatest theatrical drama of all time. However, this cliché is not without cause. The play Hamlet is beloved because of its complexity and the wide-ranging possibilities it offers actors and directors for interpretation.
Assignment
In this assignment, you will select a scene from Hamlet to analyze. Although you are encouraged to both read and view the work in its entirety, for practical time considerations, this will not be necessary for this assignment; instead you will be focusing on one scene.
First, read this synopsis of the entire play, found here: https://www.hartfordstage.org/stagenotes/hamlet/synopsis (Links to an external site.)
Next, select a scene to analyze. Your tendency might be to go for the famous “to be or not to be” soliloquy, but know that Hamlet is full of great scenes, and it might be easier to say something revealing if you choose a scene that is less well-known. Ultimately, try to choose a scene that seems - at least in its description - to seize your attention or interest. You can find a synopsis of each scene at this site: http://utminers.utep.edu/ajkline/hamlet.htm (Links to an external site.)
Now you must read the scene. As you do, keep in mind that Hamlet is not only considered one of the greatest dramas for performance, it is also regarded as one of the greatest pieces of literature in English - and even world - literature. Pay close attention to the language Shakespeare uses, the turns of phrase, and the ways he creates his characters and moves the action of the plot along. It would be useful to keep notes as you read, marking places that seem significant in some way, and noting any aspects of the text that strike you (here, you might find it useful to employ some of your learning from the literature module of our course). You can find the entire script of Hamlet, complete with helpful footnotes to assist with problems of language or meaning, here: http://www.shakespeare-online.com/plays/hamletscenes.html (Links to an external site.)
Finally, watch a staging of your scene. Youtube has countless versions of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, scene-by-scene. You can also watch an entire production on the Kanopy streaming site, through the FSW library. As you watch the staging, pay attention to how this literary work is brought to life. Does the interpretation agree with yours? Does it seem to reveal anything about the scene that you hadn’t experienced from reading of it? How are the characters brought to life? How is the stage used? What kind of Hamlet do you get from this interpretation (bear in mind, interpretations of the character of Hamlet can range from indecisive and moody to insane, or even insanely clever)? Be sure and include an explanation for why you chose the scene you did.
Post your analysis on your blog. Feel free to offer a link and/or use any visuals that you think would help or might make the posting look good. The posting should be at least 250 words. This assignment will be assessed on its formal clarity, the quality of the writing and editing, its degree of engagement with its topic, its creativity/inventiveness/originality of ideas, and the sophistication of thought it expresses.

WU Application of Psychological Approaches Essay
Coaches quite often encourage clients to reflect on specific situations, the options or solutions that might be available, and how each might be carried out. In doing so, coaches must ask powerful questions to further explore the cognitions and behaviors of their clients. For instance, using a cognitive approach, a coach might ask a client questions such as "What was your perception of the decision that was made?" or "What did you think when you were informed of the decision?" However, using a behavioral approach, a coach might ask a client questions such as "How did you react to that decision?" or "What did you do when you were informed of the decision?"
In this Assignment, you will use both the behavioral and cognitive approaches to coaching to develop questions you might ask a client in the case study. Then you will consider which approach you think might be more effective to use with the client.
To prepare for this Assignment:
Review Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 in the course text Evidence Based Coaching Handbook. Reflect on the cognitive psychological approach to coaching and how it is applied to the coaching process.
With the characteristics of power questions and the types of questions that promote change in mind, consider questions you might ask using the behavioral and cognitive psychological approaches to coaching.
Review the case study for Week 8 found below. Develop at least five powerful questions you might ask the individual in the case study using the behavioral as well as the cognitive psychological approaches to coaching.
Think about which approach (behavioral or cognitive) is best applied to the client and organization in the case study and why.
Week 6 & Week 8 Case Study: Application of Psychological Approaches
Widgets, Inc., is a U.S. firm that employees 300 people and provides American auto manufacturers with assembled wiring for various electrical components of their automobiles. Widgets, Inc., is located in a small town in Missouri and is the primary employer and community-supporting agency in the town. Widgets, Inc., has experienced tremendous budgetary cutbacks due to the industry’s falling sales. While employees typically have been loyal and motivated, the company had to lay off 25% of its workforce due to funding. This sudden change in employment has impacted the morale and productivity of the remaining employees, along with the community’s economic stability.
Eli is the CEO of the firm and makes most of the decisions regarding change management and employee retention. He recognized the dire situation and addressed these issues with the board. The firm is very employee-driven and aware of the impact of layoffs; therefore the executives in the firm decided to call upon Abby, a well-known leadership coach in the area, for assistance. Abby is an external leadership coach, but has worked with this firm in the past.
Abby will work with Eli to determine how to enhance business, boost employee morale, and increase sales so he is able to rehire employees who were laid off. Eli is very open to working with Abby and is eager to work on new ideas for positive change in this time of crisis. He realizes change is needed, which may require adjustment from all employees, including those who work on the front line as well as top executives. His ideas for positive change will be reviewed by the board before they are implemented. However, Eli typically makes sound decisions and has board support.
