i need help in my discussions
i need you to answer this (just one paragraph is enough ):
The readings in Parts II & III of your textbook offer arguments about the ways in which established customs, social institutions, and (mostly historical) American law serve to apportion power along race, gender, and class lines in the United States; chiefly, by apportioning an amount of power to white men that far exceeds the amount of power apportioned to other groups. In Allan G. Johnson's essay entitled "Patriarchy," for example, it is suggested that the male-centeredness of the media and entertainment industries serves to reinforce white male hegemony on power by portraying the activities of white men as being of primary interest and importance.
Do you agree that most of the media you encounter is, as Johnson writes, "about men and what they've done or haven't done or what they have to say about either?" You may not be able to determine this by merely reflecting on the question, so instead simply make a list of five movies that you think are the most important movies you've seen in your life, where you can define "important" however you wish. Do those movies primarily depict the activities of white males?
It may be that being a student in this class has already primed you to answer this question in a certain way, so feel free to ask a friend or family member this question as well: "what are the 5 most important movies you've seen?" Do any of the responses you get refer to movies that depict the actions of women or of people of color?
If it happens that the movies you (or your friend or family member) find to be most important do indeed primarily depict the actions of white males, how does that fact serve to influence your understanding of our society -- is it, as Johnson argues, a patriarchal society precisely because of its male-centeredness?
