The University of Oklahoma US History Discussion and Responses
If you were teaching a course on modern U.S. history, what themes would you emphasize in the history of the country from the 1990s to the present? In what ways are longer-term historical trends visible in this period? How does an understanding of the longer history of the U.S. help us make sense of more recent trends, developments, and controversies?

POST
If I'm teaching a course on modern American history, I want to emphasize the theme of globalization in The history of the United States after the 1990s. With the end of the cold war, the world seems to be getting smaller and the global economy needs to be better organized and integrated. This trend is reflected in many aspects, such as the United States' accession to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1993."As a result, jobs were created, and Opportunity either across the world," said Bill Clinton in a speech on NAFTA (Voices of Freedom, Page 326-327). The establishment of the WORLD Trade Organization in 1995 also promoted the development of globalization. All of these have created more jobs and opportunities for American citizens, which can greatly improve the economic situation of the United States. Wal-mart, KFC, Pizza Hut, and other multinational companies in the United States began to rise rapidly, bringing many new products to the world, and McDonald's even changed global eating habits. Many foreign companies have also brought new products to the United States, with well-known brands such as Honda and Toyota taking major market share. Cheap Labour in Central America and East Asia also gives multinationals a bigger stake. Globalization has a positive impact on all countries, but it also poses a threat to the environment. Industrialization pollutes nature, exacerbates climate change, and so on. These are all controversial topics in our world recently, but I believe that human beings will gradually improve their development in the future and make great efforts to protect the earth's environment.
