Description

What Did Our Parents Know? 300 words or more and due Friday 5:30pm

I will send reading material once selected.

After you've completed the reading for this week, please answer the following questions:

  1. Think back to your childhood and share some examples of your parents' parenting styles/techniques. How do they compare with the concepts you read about in chapter 5 of Brooks? Have you used (do you plan to use) any of them with your own children? Why or why not?
  2. If you are a parent, please share with us your expectation of parenthood vs. reality. Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? (For example, when we had our 1st child, he had severe reflux that led to him being diagnosed borderline failure to thrive. The first 6 weeks of his life consisted of him vomiting every time I fed him, numerous doctor appointments and trips to the children's hospital for tests. Needless to say, that was NOT how we envisioned parenthood! Knowing what I know now, I would have made sure we had more of a support system. That was a scary time for us and going through it alone was very difficult.) If you aren't a parent, please tell us your expectations of parenthood. What changes do you think you'll have to make (home, lifestyle, etc.)? Who will you include in your support system?

SOURCE CREDITING
All sources on which discussion forum posts are based must be properly source credited according to APA formatting rules. Formatting work per APA rules can be a bit like learning a second language.  The website http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ provides needed basics without having to sort through rarely used details.

Below are guides for how to source credit the classroom lecture notes and the course textbook:

Lecture notes source crediting: This source crediting will be done using “(Lecture Week __)” in the forum post body with the lecture week number in the blank space and “Lecture Week __” in the "References" list at the end of the post, all without the quotation marks. This is not APA formatting convention but allow for the notes to simplify this part of the post requirement for you and make your lecture notes incorporation and crediting easy to spot.

Textbook source crediting:
Below is how the course textbooks should be source credited.

In the body of a forum post:
(Brooks, 2011)

**APA formatting doesn’t actually require page numbers for paraphrasing (summarizing what you read in your own words), only for direct quotations which must be placed inside quotation marks. Quotes are not allowed in this course, but you will need to include page numbers when source crediting of any course textbook content on which your post is based. You instructor uses them to be able to track the locations in the course textbook of content that you summarized and referenced.
Below is how to source credit in the "References" list at the end of a post:
