My Experiences After Sitting Outside in Nature Quietly for 30 Minutes Essay
Background Author Richard Louv coined the term “nature deficit disorder’ in his 2005 book Last Child in the Woods. Louv is concerned about a lack of connection to the environment and to nature in modern society. While he wrote about children, many adults spend far more time using electronic devices than outdoors enjoying the natural world. How does this disconnect affect people, on communities, and on the environment? Louv suggests that the solution is a close by as our backyards. Simply being outdoors, rather than inside, can help us to feel connected to nature.

Surfboards, fishing poles or similar devices are acceptable. Observe what is going on around you and how you feel.
When your time is up, write a one page essay about your experience. Note that this is NOT a research paper. You are writing about your own thoughts, so no research or references needed.

Discussion: Human Physiology: Molecular Interactions
Cystic fibrosis is genetic disease caused by mutations in the CFTR gene. The consequence of this is production of an abnormal transmembrane protein that is responsible for producing sweat, mucus, and digestive fluids.
Explain in depth the correlation between the defective gene and the abnormal protein that is produced. Be sure to mention the process involved in protein production, whether or not those process(s) have properly occurred, and their end products.

Southwestern College Respiratory System Discussion
Respond to the following:
Suppose after a high-smog alert day in your city, a 5-year-old child with asthma, a 50-year-old male smoker with emphysema, and a 75-year-old of average health all come to the emergency room complaining of a cough and chest pain.
Which patient’s health would you be the most concerned about and why?
How do breathed-in air pollutants, such as smoke or asbestos, interfere with or worsen the respiration process in each of these scenarios?
