Description
How many atoms of carbon are present in 12.9 g of a compound that is 36.7% carbon, by weight? Answer in units of atoms.
User generated content is uploaded by users for the purposes of learning and should be used following Studypool's honor code & terms of service.
Explanation & Answer
36.7 % of 12.9 g = 4.73 g - the mass of carbon in the sample
4.73 g / 12.011 g/mol = 0.394 - the amount of carbon in moles
Multiplying the latter by the Avogadro's number, obtain 0.394 * 6.022 * 10^23 = 2.37 times 10^23 atoms of C.

SDSU Flame Tests For Metal Lab Report
This "lab" will demonstrate how you can identify the presence of various metal cations in an unknown sample by using a technique called a Flame Test.It is a good idea to read more about flame test. You can find information on the basis for flame tests and how they are performed at Chem Libre (Links to an external site.) and Wikipedia. (Links to an external site.)The Beyond Labz simulation will get you to perform flame tests on a set of solutions containing known metal ions. You will then perform flame tests on 4 (four) test unknowns to identify which metal is present (there is an opportunity to practice first). To get started, first download the Beyond Labz worksheet for Flame Test experiment. You will need to print this worksheet so that you can fill it in and submit it. Please use this worksheet from Canvas instead of looking in the Beyond Labz software.OK. Now launch the Beyond Labz software, and open the Chemistry Lab.To launch the flame test simulation look at the list of worksheets on the bottom left of the window. Click "Descriptive Chemistry" and then select "Flame Tests for Metals". The lab will then open.Follow the instructions in the Flame Test Worksheet. It is a good idea to read through the entire worksheet first before you begin so that you are aware of what is expected. As you progress through the simulation, fill in data and observations on the worksheet in blue or black ink. No pencil! Even though this is a virtual lab this is good lab practice and also important to make sure your submitted work will be clear enough to grade. To help you get started you can watch a short prelab demo of Beyond Labz that I made as a narrated powerpoint presentation or videoPlay media comment.Update on procedure: August 24th. When you have identified your practice unknown, drag it to the red waste bin. A new practice unknown will then appear in the test rack labeled "unknown" in the stockroom.PREPARING AND SUBMITTING YOUR WORKAfter you complete the worksheet, take a picture of each completed page or scan them. Make sure the quality is good enough to view clearly. If I cannot read it, I will not grade it.It is best to submit as a PDF or .jpeg (jpg) file. You can submit one file for each page of the table or combine them into one file.Check out free PDF Converter (Links to an external site.) and free PDF Merge (Links to an external site.) tools to convert photos to PDF and combine multiple PDF into one file.
