Question Description

Discussion: Reflecting on Discussions

Discussions are an important part to the learning process. You will CONTINUE to participate in discussions throughout this semester.

  • Look at some of the discussion posts you created in the past, either as part of this course or another course. Think about some of your best discussion posts. What are some features of a well-written discussion post?
  • Think about some discussion posts you may not have completed as well as you may have liked. Looking back, what do you think was necessary to turn this into a post you could be proud of?
  • Respond to at least one of your classmate's posts.

Look at one of Dakota's posts:

I really struggled on a previous discussion on the positive aspects of earthquakes—that is, how they help scientists understand Earth's interior. It was hard to get past the emotional impact of how quakes affect people's lives. I tried to rush through this post and get it over with so I wouldn't have to think about all that destruction. Instead, I should have focused on how learning about Earth's interior has helped people make progress in architecture, choice of building materials, and choice of locations to build. This knowledge has saved many peoples lives.
