Explanation & Answer

Hi friend,

As I understand your question you want to know the important change into academics of psychology.

Here are some key milestone

1) . Foundational to cognitive psychology is the "Individual Psychology" of Dr. Alfred Adler. Adlerian psychology was already pretty far along when Freud invited Adler (1902) to help create psychological treatments of the neuroses. Ten years later, after Freud had insisted that all members of the psycho-analytic society accept that sexual impulses are the chief factor in the forming of both normal and neurotic personality, Adler debated Freud and then left to form his own approach with a dozen members of Freud's group. His new approach became the basis for all the cognitive psychologies and therapies that would come later.

2) Dr. Albert Ellis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Elli... in 1954 began teaching his "Rational Emotive Therapy" which, he said, was largely his own invention, but he did give credit to Adler for having paved the way.

3) In 1975 Dr. Aaron Beck published what would be the first of many books on cognitive therapy. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Temki... He also believed he had discovered his approach by himself, however much it looked very much like what Ellis and Adler had done before him.

4) At the present time, Adlerian Psychology is experiencing a resurgence, and more and more psychotherapists are beginning to see that all along they have been practicing Adler's approaches, including Adlerian cognitive therapy.
